In the US there are close to half a million children in the foster care system. Most of these children, are living in a non-related foster home (i.e., with strangers). As a result, the foster care system not only affects the foster child and their birth family but also the foster parent and their birth children. The below three books helps those involved in the foster care system. Foster Care BooksJaden Goes to Foster Care by Corine Hyman – is a great book that breaks down barriers between foster and birth families. It also reiterates the original intent behind the foster care system: collaborative care between foster and birth families to do what is best for the child while in care. This book is an excellent resource for foster families struggling to communicate to their children about the normal emotions they'll face while in care, this book is also great tool for both birth and foster families to share with kids in their care. Maybe Days by Jennifer Wilgocki and Marcia Kahn Wright – Is a great book that helps the actual foster child understand what is foster care and the role of everyone involved in care - social workers, foster parents, attorneys and what each of their responsibilities are. It encourages the foster child to focus on being a kid ad learning to adapt to whatever foster care situation they are in. This book helps the foster child understand that what brought them to foster care is not their fault and that everyone involved in their care is working for what is best for you the foster child. What's a Foster Family? By Anne Evans - is a great book that introduce children it the twist and turns of foster siblings. If a family is giving birth to a new baby, they can easily pick up an I'm a Big Brother or I'm a Big Sister book from the library and explain things to their toddler, preschool, or young elementary school child. But how do you explain foster care? This book answers that question and many more. Specifically, it answers many question that a child may have regarding foster care including why do I have to share my toys, why does my foster sibling leaves, will I ever have to go into foster care. Then My Journey with Jesus Christ is for you. My Journey with Jesus Christ is the second book published by Teaching Christ’s Children Publishing. This book was born out of Ms. Corine’s belief that the two most important relationships that a child can have are a relationship with Jesus Christ and a loving adult. My Journey with Jesus Christ combines those relationships by allowing a child and loving adult to engage together in a journey through the Christian faith. This book has 10 different adult/child devotions. Each devotion includes a short lesson about a Christian principle and ends with a space for an adult to write a prayer or love note to the child. The book also tells the Christian story from beginning to end. One thing that people are raving about is the fact that each lesson ends with a space for the child to write a personal prayer. The prayer page is based on the ACTS prayer model and includes a space for your child to record adoration, confessions, thanksgiving, and supplication.
