Let’s do our part to keep Christ in Christmas by taking the 3 Gifts Christmas Challenge
When I was a foster parent, one of the best pieces of advice I received during Christmas was to just focus on giving each child three gifts. As you probably guess the three gifts are a reminder of the three gifts the wise men gave to Jesus. I decided to follow this advice that year. As a result I found myself spending less time focusing on shopping, more time with family and more time reflecting on God’s gifts to us so long ago.
The following year, I realized there was even more meaning behind just giving three gifts idea. Since then, I have made a commitment to give only three very specific gifts each year. . . each gift is designed to remind me and the receive the real meaning of Christmas.
So what are the three gifts?

So what are the three gifts?
- The Gift of Gold - Gold symbolizes something of great value or desire. So one gift is always something the person wants. This varies by person and in my family we believe in asking directly what you would like for Christmas.
- The Gift of Myrrh - Myrrh symbolizes something the person needs. It was used as medicine when Christ was alive. Some of my favorite gifts of “Myrrh” are soap, paper towels, socks and underclothing.
- The Gift of Frankincense - Frankincense symbolizes something spiritual. It was burned in the temple as a part of worshiping God during Jesus's time. So one gift always something that will help the person in the spiritual walk. Think a worship CD, devotional, spiritual book, new Bible.
